Business case studies

As part of the ongoing work programme to support senior secondary schools with The New Zealand Curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and NCEA developments, the Ministry is developing senior subject teaching and learning guidelines in business studies and NCEA business studies achievement standards.

Level 8 of the Guidelines states that students should be able to 'analyse how and why businesses in New Zealand operating in the national and global markets make operational and strategic decisions in response to interacting internal and external factors' (achievement objective one) and that this objective is to be explored within the context of New Zealand businesses with global reach (exporters, New Zealand owned multinationals) connected to students' lives.

Many of New Zealand's most innovative firms export and engage with Asia. Our economic well being depends on the growth and success of this engagement.

To support teachers and students with effective learning about Asian engaged businesses, Asia New Zealand Foundation is developing case studies that meet some of the requirements outlined in the Level 8, Teaching and Learning Guidelines. Teachers and students are invited to explore these further.

The evidence tells us that the more connected the learning is to the students' lives, the greater the achievement and motivation of our learners.

The Ministry is most grateful to the firms who have been willing to be part of this resource development. We are also very appreciative of the ongoing support from BusinessNZ and Asia NZ.
