Myths and Legends

A unit in which students can explore, through close reading, the origins of stories that have been passed down through the generations to explain natural phenomena, the creation of our world, and the adventures of fictional or story-book characters. Not Asia-specific, but could be used with an Asian context.

Students send a soft toy on an overseas adventure. This unit includes technology and ICT. The English focus is on recounts and diary writing.

Conflict and War

This unit involves a study of war poetry from the First World War through to the Vietnam War. It also covers the study of the film Gallipoli, leading to visual language viewing assessment. Students write their own poetry and short stories, and eventually write a transactional essay discussing verbal and visual features of Gallipoli.
